Flexibility. Access. Opportunity.
Blended learning at UIC is a pedagogically-driven effort capitalizing on the campus’ instructional technology infrastructure to provide key teaching and learning enhancements. A primary objective is to provide our students with flexible scheduling opportunities to reach their educational goals while balancing school, work and life. By integrating classroom and online instruction, blended learning offers a variety of learning environments.
Blended Learning Initiative: Increasing Access and Opportunity
In March 2008, UIC received grant funds from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for the implementation of Phase II of the Blended Learning Initiative, which will accelerate campus adoption of blended learning as a means to increase access. With Sloan grant funds and campus matching funds, the campus is working with 5 colleges to re-design 62 courses, resulting in the integration of online and face-to-face instruction in 80 degree programs by December 2010.
Featured Course
ENGL 160: Academic Writing I. Examine language, how it is composed, who it is intended for and how it works with the use of complementing face-to-face and online learning activities. Biases, motivations and agendas behind language will also be considered with an emphasis on argument and sentence-level grammar.
