Registering for an Online, Blended or Tech-Enhanced Course
Anyone registering for or currently enrolled in either an online or tech-enhanced course must have a NetID (also known as a username) to access course content through Blackboard. Before a NetID can be provided a UIN must be generated.
A University Identification Number (UIN) is a unique set of nine randomly generated numbers that the University uses to identify people in its computer and record systems. You need a UIN for activities like obtaining a NetID, registering for classes and paying tuition.
In order to request a UIN, our office must have proof of identity on record. Please read below for further information on providing proof.
Proving Your Identity
Proofs of identity help safeguard your identity and the campus. To obtain your UIN and NetID, you must present one of the forms of identification from the list below either on the first day of class or by faxing a copy of the identification to our office at (312) 413-9730.
All proofs of identity must be current, not expired, and include an identifiable photo of you.
Accepted proofs of identity:
* Passports and passport cards
* U.S. passport

If you are enrolling in an online, blended or tech-enhanced course you are required to submit proof of identity in order to obtain a NetID (also known as a username). A NetID is a unique public identifier used to link you to your University accounts and services. This includes access to Blackboard and UIC e-mail services.
