Public Health Geographic Information Systems Certificate

The Public Health Geographic Information Systems online certificate is a 13-credit hour program comprised of three courses and an integrative project.

Certificate courses are taught by faculty from the highly-ranked UIC School of Public Health, as well as practicing professionals from health departments and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Students will acquire the following skills and knowledge after completion of the Public Health GIS certificate program:

• Comprehension of the goals and analysis methods common to the public health informatics field
• Command of the basic characteristics and structure of spatial databases
• Operational understanding of the most widely used GIS software package (ArcGIS)
• Ability to consult and communicate effectively with stakeholders, interest groups, and regulatory bodies by means of powerful spatial visualization tools
